How to Make Carriers for Herbs: Teas, Alcohol Tinctures, Spiced Wines and Oils

Water – Infusions (Teas)

For flowers, leaves, some seeds, and fruit. Quickly assimilated and utilized by the body.

Gentle for children, convalescents, and those with a delicate digestion. Ideal for diuretic, diaphoretic, cooling, and cleaning regimes.

*Decoctions are used for harder parts like roots, and for stronger preparations.

Alcohol – Tinctures and Spiced Wines

For all plant parts, especially hard parts. Alcohol adds some temporary heat and stimulation. It is convenient, although not for those intolerant of alcohol or for babies. Keeps indefinitely.

Oil – Herbs Infuse In Oil

For all parts of the plant. For rubs, massage oils, and liniments. Infused oils can be thickened with beeswax to make soothing and nourishing ointments and salves.
